Action Planning in Noord-Brabant, Netherlands

In the Province of Noord-Brabant 6 landfill sites will be planned for redevelopment in the  SufalNet4EU-project. To have these sites redeveloped the Povince of Noord-Brabant has decided to fund some of the planning costs. 
 
Bergse Haven, Municipality of Bergen op Zoom (91 hectare)
The Bergse Harbour of Bergen op Zoom is a large industrial and housing area of which 50% is estimated to be contaminated. Bergen op Zoom would like to clean up the area, to re-open the canals and to redevelop new residential and industrial areas.

Sustainable Industrial area Cranendonck, Municipality of Cranendonck (11 hectares)
A large industrial area of 180 hectares is planned. In this area a closed landfill is situated. This landfill will be intgreated and transformed in industial area.

Padbroek, Municipality of Cuijk (1 hectare)
This landfill is located in the middle of a residential area built in the 1970s. It is currently used as a children's playground. A community centre, childcare centre and a school will be planned here. The community will be involved in the planning process.  

De Kater, Municipality of Boxmeer (2 hectares)
Boxmeer is located next to the river Meuse. A small landfill is situated in the floodplain along the river dike. Boxmeer would like to relocate the dike in order to use the area including the landfill for residential and recreational area.

Vlagheide, Municipality of Schijndel (44 hectares)
Vlagheide together with Gulbergen are environmentally controlled landfills in Noord-Brabant. The Vlagheide was in operation till 2003. A masterplan has been developed.The municipality would like to transform the area into a recreational area with golf course, camp sites, chalets and a tearoom.

Gulbergen, Association of Municipalities in the Region Eindhoven (50 hectares)
Gulbergen has been closed in 2004. On and around the landfill a new estate of 325 hectares is being developed. A golf course has already been installed against the slopes of the landfill. Another 25 hectares will be redeveloped in a ski slope and landmark.
