The County of Böblingen is located in the middle of Baden-Wurttemberg in the Stuttgart region. The county's waste department services 373.000 residents in 26 towns and communities. It owns 4 closed landfills that are closed in the 1990's. All 4 sites are located in a forested area and will be returned to forestry after a period of aftercare. Böblingen would like to plan photo voltaics, wind turbines and forest reclamation together with representatives of the relevant public authorities, nature-conservation groups and community groups.
Landfill Böblingen (20 hectares)
This landfill was closed in 1994 and is thas been sealed with a topliner. Böblingen would like to use the area as a park for producing energy by sun-, wind- and biomass power.
Landfill Leonberg (23 hectares)
Leonberg was closed in 1999. The sealing of the surface is planned for 2015. Today the area is used as an open composting site for tree and hedge cuttings. Böblingen would like to use this site for producing alternative energy by sun-, wind- and biomass power.
Landfill Sindelfingen (27 hectares)
Sindelfingen was closed in 1997. The sealing of the surface is planned for 2011. Currently the site is used as a paper sorting plant. Böblingen would like to use this site for producing alternative energy by sun-, wind- and biomass power and recycling plant.
Landfill Autobahn/Rennstrecke (25 hectares)
This landfill has a total volume of 7.3 million cubic metres of mineral waste. On top of the landfill a fermentation plant for biodegradeble waste is build and electricity is inserted into the regional grid. This site is also te be used for producing alternative energy by sun-, wind- and biomass power and recycling plant.
