Tüskésrét landfill (235 hectares)
Tüskésrét is located in the centre of Pécs city. Since the starting of the Power Station of Pécs in 1958, Tüskésrét has been the dumping site for the slurry. Some 35 million tons of slurry (from stag and fly ash) is deposited here. At present the ownership is settled and the cooperation of the parties is given, so there are no obstacles of this kind in the way of the developments.
The redevelopment of the area of Tüskésrét in Pécs is set in the local development plan of the city of Pécs. According to this developmentplan, accepted in 2009, the area should be developed and utilised in a complex, multipurpose way. The utilisation of the slurry deposit areas of Tüskésrét and its surroundings have been grounded by several studies, expert's reports and plans. The studies were examining the expected groundwater levels, the expected concentrations and spatial occurance of pollutants following the recultivation.
The developments and investments realised in the Tüskésrét area should make a "downtown"-like area with an everyday cultural, sports and recreation activities and functions possible here. There are several basic studies for the area, but there is no detailed, accepted development, layout or structural plan concerning the build up of Tüskésrét. After the preparation of a masterplan a detailed planning of construcions, layout, public utilities, roads, green areas will be programmed in more detail.
